Harold J. Godbey, Sr.

Harold J. Godbey, Sr., 75, of Columbia, KY passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY. Born on April 10,1947 in Yosemite, KY to the late Sam and Mattie Warren Godbey. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines. He enjoyed making other people laugh, thrifting, listening to George Jones and telling all of his grandkids that they were his favorite. Harold was proud of his service in the U.S. Marines. He cherished spending time with his family and most of all loved the Lord. He was of the Baptist Faith and last attended Grace Baptist Church in Liberty, KY.

Survivors include five children, Carla Godbey (Jasper Rodgers) of Columbia, KY; Robin King (Brian) of Liberty, Melissa Hoover (Brad) of Waynesburg, Harold J. Godbey II of Liberty and Rebekah Jo Galloway of Crab Orchard; one brother, Edward Godbey of Ohio; one sister, Charlotte Irwin (Marty) of Ohio; twelve grandchildren, Keonah, Natasha, Amanda, Sami, Beau, Breyanna, B.J., Brandon, Josh, Waylon, Emily and Elayna; thirteen great-grandchildren; wife, Judy May Godbey and her children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Artie Louella Wheeler Godbey; parents, Sam and Mattie Godbey; two infant sons, Earl Samuel Godbey and William Roy Godbey; three brothers, Coy Godbey, Virtrees Godbey and Roy Godbey; and two sisters, Deloris Jean Godbey, Mary Florence Stephens.

A one-day service has been scheduled for Monday, December 5, 2022 at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Bro. Beau Coffman officiating. Burial will follow at Rich Hill Cemetery in Yosemite, KY.
