James "Butch" Lee Phelps Jr. Obituary (1943 - 2016)

James L. "Butch" Phelps, Jr., 72, of McKinney, KY passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016 at home. Born December 29, 1943 in Detroit, MI to the late James Lee Sr. and Mildred Cox Phelps, he served as a Military Police Officer in the United States Army, was a former police officer in Annapolis, MD, and was a former employee of International Harvester Inc. He had worked as a manager at the BP Station on Main Street in Stanford, KY in the past, and was a member of McKinney Baptist Church. Survivors include one son; Michael Lee Phelps, one sister; Linda Roskens (Bob) of Chapman, KS, three grandchildren; James Michael Phelps, Jacob Lee Phelps, and Corissa Phelps, four great-grandchildren; Noah Phelps, Hayleigh Phelps, Kennedy Herrington, and Trennedy Kidd, two nieces; Hilary Oberhelman (Keith), and Lindsay Hildebrand (Dustin), one nephew; Seth Roskens, two great-nieces; Kinley Hildebrand and Harper Hildebrand, and one great-nephew; Zachary Roskens. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 5-9pm at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford. Funeral service will be 11am Friday, May 20, 2016 at the funeral home with Reverend Gary King officiating. A committal service with military honors will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery at 12:30 pm. Casket bearers will be members of American Legion Post #18. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be given to Heritage Hospice (P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422) and/or Castaway Sanctuary For Dogs.
