Rev. Oscar L. Mayes, Jr., 87, of Stanford, KY passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, KY. Born December 8, 1928 in Hopkinsville, KY, he was the son of the late Oscar Lofton Mayes, Sr. and Nona Pace Mayes. He was a graduate of Transylvania University and The College of the Bible (now Lexington Theological Seminary), he was a former employee of Kroger, Food Fair, and IGA as well as a Minister of the Christian Church Disciples of Christ where he served as pastor of churches in Illinois and Kentucky including the Stanford Christian Church and was currently the pastor of Mt. Zion Christian Church (Franklin Co., KY). He was a member of the Lion's Club in Illinois, the Army National Guard, and a past member of Summer Singers. Survivors include his wife of 55 years; Ruby Elizabeth Craddock Mayes, a daughter; Cheryl N. Mayes both of Stanford, KY, one brother; Ralph Thomas Mayes (Ann) of North Carolina, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter; Pamela Elna Mayes and a stillborn son; Daniel Byron Mayes, two brothers; James Mayes and Bill Mayes, and three sisters; Ruth Mayes, Margaret Sheren, and Ann Steinkamp. A memorial service has been scheduled for Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Stanford Christian Church. Visitation will be from 2-4pm with service beginning at 4pm. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be given to Lexington Theological Seminary (230 Lexington Green CIR STE 300, Lexington, KY 40503-3337), Spay Our Strays Inc. (P.O.
